Braxton Hill has over twenty years’ experience trying cases to juries and judges in state and federal courts throughout Virginia. He has handled appeals before the Virginia Court of Appeals, Supreme Court of Virginia and US Courts of Appeals for the Fourth and Federal Circuits.
Braxton’s practice reflects a wide array of complex litigation matters for clients ranging from individual entrepreneurs to Fortune 300 companies. His cases have involved contract disputes, LLC dissolutions, business torts, trade secret theft, trademark enforcement and patent infringement. He has served as local co-counsel for out-of-state attorneys in various commercial litigation matters, including international investment fraud cases and patent infringement disputes over household products, microelectronics, medical devices, and software development. Braxton’s high-stakes litigation experience includes multi-million dollar contract disputes in the energy and railroad industries and defense of high-exposure lawyers’ professional liability claims. He has also worked on class action matters involving mineral and gas lease royalties and consumer lending law.
An important aspect of Braxton’s work is representation of clients charged with criminal offenses by the federal government. He has been appointed to the Criminal Justice Act Felony Panel by the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and has assisted clients with responding to subpoenas issued by the US Department of Justice.
Braxton is a graduate of the University of Virginia and the University of Richmond School of Law. After graduation, Braxton served as a law clerk to the judges of the City of Virginia Beach Circuit Court, learning first-hand how to craft and present legal arguments that judges and juries find persuasive. Following his judicial clerkship, Braxton began his law practice in Richmond, Virginia with Christian & Barton, LLP, where he tried cases for twenty-four years, serving on that firm’s Executive Committee and as its claims counsel and loss prevention partner. He has been active in the organized bar, including service as Chair of the Virginia State Bar Committee on Lawyer Discipline, a Director of the Richmond Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, an instructor in the VSB’s mandatory Professionalism Course, President of the John Marshall American Inn of Court, Chair of the Virginia Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Litigation Section, Young Lawyers’ Division, and Law Practice Management Division, and President of the Bar Association of the City of Richmond.
